Sir Jim Ratcliffe and at least one member of the Glazer family visited Carrington on Thursday for the latest Manchester United executive committee meeting. It is the first time a Glazer has seen the refurbished Carrington.

The meeting was originally scheduled to take place in a different location, but it was relocated to Manchester so the club's leadership team could be on-site to support Michael Carrick following his appointment. Ratcliffe is a United co-owner and has control of football operations. The six Glazer siblings are the majority owners of United and still rubber-stamp all important decisions at the club.

It's thought at least one of Avram Glazer and Joel Glazer has visited Carrington for the meeting, which is also set to be attended by Omar Berrada, chief executive, and Roger Bell, chief financial officer.

Carrick will be spoken to by United's hierarchy ahead of the Manchester derby this weekend, his first game as head coach. United decided to sack Ruben Amorim amid rising tensions with the board.

United's executive committee meetings are usually held in Monaco, but relocating to Manchester has given the hierarchy a chance to speak to Carrick in person for the first time since his return. Carrick has inherited a side that could still secure European football. Darren Fletcher, speaking during his stint as caretaker, stressed that a return to the Champions League must be the target, and United are just three points adrift of Liverpool in fourth position.

When Carrick's appointment was announced, he said: "Having the responsibility to lead Manchester United is an honour. I know what it takes to succeed here, my focus is now on helping the players to reach the standards that we expect at this incredible club, which we know that this group is more than capable of producing.

"I have worked with a number of the players already and have obviously continued to watch the team closely in recent years, I have total belief in their talents, dedication and ability to be successful here.

"There is still a lot to fight for this season, we are ready to pull everyone together and give the fans the performances that their loyal support deserves."

Jason Wilcox, director of football, said: “Michael is an excellent coach and knows exactly what it takes to win at Manchester United. He is ready to lead our talented and determined group of players for the remainder of the season as we continue to build the club towards regular and sustained success.”
