Michael Carrick was appointed the new Manchester United head coach this week. He replaces Ruben Amorim, who was relieved of his duties after a tumultuous 14-month stint.
He told the club's official website after the move was confirmed: “Having the responsibility to lead Manchester United is an honour.
“I know what it takes to succeed here; my focus is now on helping the players to reach the standards that we expect at this incredible club, which we know that this group is more than capable of producing.
“I have worked with a number of the players already and have obviously continued to watch the team closely in recent years, I have total belief in their talents, dedication and ability to be successful here.
“There is still a lot to fight for this season, we are ready to pull everyone together and give the fans the performances that their loyal support deserves.”
Following his appointment, Man United legend Roy Keane has fired a bizarre swipe at Carrick's wife, Lisa.
Lisa Carrick Slammed Roy Keane in 2014
Manchester United assistant coach Michael Carrick before facing Southampton.
Lisa launched a social media tirade at Keane in 2014. Carrick had featured for United in a loss against Greek side Olympiacos in February of that year and his post-match comments did not sit well with the Irishman.
Keane said, per the Manchester Evening News: "That interview was just like the performance: flat. He should say a bit more, have a bit more urgency, even in his interview. That just reflected United's performance tonight: flat, with no urgency."
Lisa saw Keane's comments and she took to social media to defend him, writing on X (formerly Twitter):
"Roy Keane what a ****, says anything to provoke a reaction."
She later regretted her actions and deleted the post. In a follow-up tweet, she wrote: "Deleted my tweet. Emotions got the better of me... just disappointed."
Roy Keane Takes Swipe at Lisa Carrick 12 Years On

The Irishman has now discussed Carrick's appointment as Man Utd manager on the Overlap alongside Jamie Carragher, Gary Neville, Jill Scott and Ian Wright. Nearly 12 years have now passed since Lisa's comments but Keane still remembers them to this day.
Jamie Carragher didn't think Carrick should have been given the job as he said: "Manchester United should not be employing Michael Carrick. I hope he does okay...'
Keane then interrupted the Liverpool legend as he said:
"Well his wife can always come in, because she's got a bit of a big mouth sometimes..."
"She's probably just somewhere going about her business and then 'bam'..." to which Keane replied: "She's probably doing the team talk!"
Roy Keane Backed Eddie Howe to Replace Ruben Amorim
Eddie Howe
Prior to Carrick's appointment as interim head coach, Keane backed Newcastle manager Eddie Howe to be given the United job.
He said on Sky Sports: "I'd go with Eddie Howe. I like him. I like what he's done. He's managed a lot of games. When his teams are at it, they'll play good football. He has his critics, but I like what he's done at Newcastle.
"He's managed seven or 800 games. He's still a young man. I love his calmness. Maybe Man Utd need a little bit of that.
"We've seen with our previous [appointments], we like people with emotions, but he's got that calmness. The job he's done at Newcastle, Champions League and winning a cup, I'd be happy to see him go in there."
It remains to be seen whether United heed Keane's advice and make a move for Howe when Carrick's contract comes to an end in the summer.
