Manchester United midfielder Casemiro faces an uncertain future with the club.
The summer of 2022 seems like a long time ago now, when Casemiro made his shock £60 million move from Real Madrid to Manchester United.
The move was a sign of United’s eternal appeal, with Casemiro convinced he could help to try and turn this ailing football club around.
Casemiro did play a part in the club ending a post-2017 trophy drought, with United winning silverware in 2023 and 2024, but as his contract ticks down in 2026, the club is no better off.
United are hitting the reset button once again, stuck in another interim manager cycle, aiming to set a new direction this coming summer. Casemiro is not expected to be part of it.

Casemiro’s contract at Manchester United expires at the end of the 2025/26 season.
The former Real Madrid midfielder is one of Manchester United’s highest paid players, with a big salary part of the deal to bring him to the club.

A new report from Brazilian outlet Lance! claims that there are no current negotiations between Manchester United and Casemiro over an extension.
Back in November we had reported that United would be open to a renewal with Casemiro on a vastly reduced salary.
But a lot has changed since, including the Manchester United head coach.
The latest report from Brazil notes that there is interest in Casemiro from clubs in Saudi Arabia and the USA.
He is free to negotiate with foreign teams, but respectfully he has declined to do so, focusing his full attention on Manchester United.
Casemiro has always maintained he would re-assess his club future after the 2026 World Cup.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe previously criticised United for handing out such an expensive salary to Casemiro, who was 30 when he joined the club. He will turn 34 next month.
Casemiro’s main focus at present is on helping Manchester United, and he is bidding to convince new head coach Michael Carrick that he should be a key part of his plans between now and the end of the season.

The path to Casemiro’s future
With Manchester United looking for a new manager, Carlo Ancelotti’s name has been thrown into the mix by various pundits including Gary Neville.
Ancelotti managed Casemiro at Real Madrid, and recently recalled him to appoint him as captain of the Brazil team.
It is a long shot that Ancelotti would agree to take on the Manchester United job, but if he did, then this could end up being the only path to Casemiro staying with the Red Devils.
