Roy Keane aims brutal dig at Michael Carrick's wife after blasting Man Utd appointments

Roy Keane has taken a swipe at Michael Carrick's wife, Lisa, whilst discussing the 44 year old's comeback to Manchester United as interim head coach. Carrick's appointment was announced earlier this week, stepping in until the end of the season after Ruben Amorim's departure. Having previously overseen three matches in 2021 before his stint with Championship outfit Middlesbrough, Carrick has now rejoined the club following constructive talks with senior figures at Old Trafford.

His return dominated conversation on the Stick to Football podcast, where Keane appeared to rekindle an old dispute with Carrick's spouse when assessing United's prospects for the campaign. Discussing Carrick's potential influence on the squad, Keane remarked: "His wife can always come in [if Carrick doesn't do well], cause she's got a bit of a big mouth sometimes. She's probably doing the team talk."

This harks back to 2014, when Lisa hit back at Keane's critique of her husband's display and post-match comments after United were beaten by Greek outfit Olympiacos in the Champions League.

Taking to Twitter, now known as X, Carrick's wife wrote: "Roy Keane what a ****, says anything to provoke a reaction."

The post was subsequently removed, with Lisa issuing an apology for her outburst. "Deleted my tweet... Emotions got the better of me," she admitted.

Keane was also critical of Carrick's new-look coaching team. Steve Holland, the former England assistant manager, will serve as Carrick's deputy, with Jonny Evans, Jonathan Woodgate and Travis Binnion rounding out the management squad.

"He's on the beach two weeks ago, Jonny Evans," Keane remarked. "Jonny Evans leaves Man United four or five weeks ago as a loans manager and then Darren Fletcher gives him a job, strangely enough gives him a job.

"He has two games, Fletch goes and Carrick gives him a job, great isn't it. We should all go to Barbados for a week.

"You're on about getting your coaching staff in, you're praising one of them saying he's experienced and then we just let the other two go, Jonathan Woodgate and Jonny Evans.

"What has Jonny Evans done to be a coach of Man United's first team? He left the job four weeks ago - loans manager, and ironically comes back working with the first team. That's a big step up, isn't it?"
