Transfermarkt reported that Manchester United wanted to sign Eivind Helland last summer, but they have now been beaten to his signature by Bologna.
He previously played at SK Brann in the Norwegian top flight and has been considered one of the most important defenders in the country.
Manchester United were tracking him for months, and at the start of the season, it felt like he was ready to leave Norway.
However, they never stepped up their interest, and the change of management at the club derailed their plans to sign the 20-year-old.
United is focused on other issues and players, which has helped Bologna to seal the move for him in this transfer window.
Football Italia confirms that the Italian side sent a bid of 6m euros for his signature, which was accepted, and the transfer has now been completed.
Helland has been developing well, and Bologna is one of the best teams he can join if he wants to improve his performance.
They are constantly trying to break into the top four and played in the Champions League’s league phase last term, so he will gain a lot of experience there.
Missing out on Helland may be something that United comes to regret in the future.
