No matter what the current situation at Manchester United is, the Red Devils will always be one of the biggest football clubs in the world.
As such, they are always linked with some of the best players in world football – today, we’ll look at five players who could make the jump to Old Trafford over the course of the January transfer window.
Marcos Llorente
United are looking to bolster their defensive and midfield ranks – bringing in an experienced professional such as Marcos Llorente would be an excellent way to do that.
According to a report from The Guardian, United are interested in the player, who is valued at £30 million. In today’s market, this isn’t an outrageous asking price.
While he certainly isn’t cheap – especially for a 30 year old – United have paid a lot more for much less in the past.
Ruben Neves
Fans of Premier League football will certainly remember Ruben Neves – the former Wolves man gained a certain level of infamy for his wicked longshots. Could we see him scoring from 40 yards again in England’s top division?
Again, this rumour comes courtesy of The Guardian. Neves currently plays for Al Hilal in the Saudi Pro League and, as such, will not be an inexpensive buy.
The Portuguese international is current 28 years of age and is entering his prime. If there was ever a time to bring him on board, it is now.
Tarik Muharemović
Here is the most obscure name on our list. United have unearthed a few diamonds in the rough over the last decade or so – could Tarik Muharemovic be the next?
United, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United are all thought to be in the race for Muharemovic’s signature, according to CaughtOffside. Therefore, if the Red Devils are to be successful in their pursuit, they might have to fend off some sturdy competition.
The 22 year old currently plays for Sassuolo in Serie A – he is under contract until 2031, which means they will likely command a substantial fee for his services.
Yan Diomande
Yan Diomande is another young player in high demand. It shouldn’t come as a surprise – he has been excellent in the Bundesliga and in the Africa Cup of Nations this season.
A forward with very few weaknesses, the Ivorian international is firmly in United’s sights, according to a report from TEAMtalk.
Despite this, United are far from the only club in the race – clubs such as Liverpool and Tottenham have also been credited with an interest.
Carlos Baleba
Carlos Baleba has been linked with United for several months now – could they finally make a swoop for the Brighton star in January?
Sadly, there are more than a few hurdles they will need to jump over first. For starters, Baleba is only just returning from AFCON, having represented Cameroon at the tournament.
Additionally, according to Sky Sports, Brighton are unwilling to let him go mid-season – if anyone wants to snap him up, they will have to wait until the summer. Nevertheless, Baleba remains a priority for United and a hefty January bid could change the Seagulls’ minds.
