Crystal Palace have made an attempt to leverage their current transfer drama, and ask about signing Jonathan David.
On Wednesday, Gianluca di Marzio reported Juventus have made initial contact for Crystal Palace’s Jean-Phillipe Mateta.
TuttoSport backed this up, citing an Eagles’ price tag of about €30m for the Frenchman.
Both sources were confident that Luciano Spalletti is keen on the striker, whose contract at Crystal Palace runs out in 2027. This was the key driver behind Juve’s interest, with the Turin club pushing for January but open to the summer too.
The Bianconeri are now pushing further.
TuttoSport provide more details on the pursuit of the 28-year-old, who is now said to have informed Crystal Palace about his decision to depart.
He’s apparently left scouts at Juve captivated by his performances. Directors at the Old Lady are pushing for a move, with the player having established a good relationship with the club’s management. This is playing a key role in the efforts progressing.
The newspaper claims that a four-year deal is on the table for the player, with Crystal Palace needing around €30m to let him leave.

This fee would allow Juve to sign Mateta in January. However, with Dusan Vlahovic’s contract running out in the summer, they will not mind waiting till then either.
The ‘next few days’ will dictate if a move can actually go through this month.
In the meantime, Gianluca di Marzio has reported that further contact has taken place between Juve and Mateta’s entourage.
The journalist expects it to be a ‘high cost operation’, especially considering the player’s wages. The report does not mention the exact amount that Mateta earns. His salary is seen as a potential hazard for the transfer.

Gazzetta dello Sport offer some detail, claiming that Crystal Palace asked Juventus for Jonathan David when the Bianconeri came forward for Mateta. The idea was a swap deal between the two forwards.
The 26-year-old Canadian has scored five goals and added three assists this season. Much more impressively, last season he managed 25 goals and 12 assists for Lille.
Juve aren’t keen on this transfer plan, with the player now finding form under Spalletti. For Crystal Palace, there’s no harm in continuing to push for David.
