Wayne Rooney has told Manchester United to make Thomas Tuchel the next permanent manager.
United have appointed Michael Carrick on an interim basis until the end of the season. Club owners the Glazers and Sir Jim Ratcliffe will look to name a full-time boss in the summer.
Tuchel, Carlo Ancelotti, Luis Enrique, Mauricio Pochettino and Xabi Alonso are all on United's radar. But United legend Rooney reckons his former club have to go for Tuchel.
The German will be in charge of England at this summer's World Cup, but is expected to stand down following the tournament.
This would mean Tuchel being available for nothing - and Rooney believes he would be the right choice to help United get back to the big time.
He told the Wayne Rooney Show: "Alonso did incredible at (Bayer) Leverkusen and I think you have more chance of him sitting and waiting and hoping with (Liverpool manager Arne) Slot.
"Tuchel is the one for me. He knows the Premier League, has won trophies. He is doing well at England. Time will tell."
Rooney, meanwhile, has backed Carrick to do well at United and believes he is the right choice for now.

Rooney and Carrick were team-mates at Old Trafford, playing together on 366 occasions and winning five Premier League titles.
Rooney added: "It is probably the obvious choice really, because I don't think there are any top, top managers available at the minute.
"I think it is the right choice at this moment in time. It is a difficult task of course. Where Manchester United are at the minute is not a good place and Michael has to go in and steady the ship."
