Report: Man Utd set to make imminent Toby Collyer decision after loan return, Michael Carrick will have played part

Toby Collyer was recalled from his West Brom loan this month after injuries and a lack of minutes, leaving Manchester United with a big decision to make.

Despite seeing his loan derailed by injury, Toby Collyer will be happy with the performances he did manage to make while at the Hawthorns.

Manchester United were right to recall him, but Collyer had some standout performances, with the real shame being his unlucky fitness record.

In December, Collyer was sent back to Carrington following ‘quite a big injury’, and subsequently, he was recalled by United before the January transfer window even opened.

Now, United has made a decision on what happens next.

Hull City expect to sign Toby Collyer on loan from Manchester United

When recalled, there was consideration that Collyer could have offered Ruben Amorim midfield depth; however, with the former United boss not so complimentary of the youngster, this was naive.

Collyer will have benefited from Amorim’s sacking; however, now it looks like he is going to head back out on loan.

Last week, it was claimed that Hull City had reopened Collyer talks following a summer rejection by the midfielder.

Now, according to Manchester World, this loan move is likely to be completed next week.

Hull are hopeful about securing the deal with confidence that Collyer will join to see out the season.

Collyer is nearly back to full fitness again after his calf injury and will therefore be allowed to leave on loan for the rest of the campaign.

Hull are currently under transfer embargo, and so a loan will have to be free like Harry Amass to Sheffield Wednesday was, but it might be beneficial in the long run.

United letting Collyer go probably means interim boss Michael Carrick has given the green light, with little interest in using him, potentially eyeing better prospects in the academy.

Collyer’s West Brom loan might have ended too soon

Joining Hull is a step up for Collyer, as it will see him immediately involved in the play-off chase for the seventh-placed side.

However, the academy graduate will have to win over manager Sergej Jakirovic, who is already a fan of Collyer. However, back at West Brom, there is a new manager who might have loved Collyer.

The Baggies appointed Eric Ramsay, formerly of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s coaching staff, and therefore, as an ex-United man, might have been perfect for Collyer.

But in actuality, the success of Collyer on loan only really depends on whether he can keep himself fit.

A fit Collyer is Premier League level, and he has five months to prove it for Hull to give himself options in the summer.
