Henrik Pedersen has said he is more than hopeful that Manchester United full-back Harry Amass will return to Sheffield Wednesday for the second half of the season. Amass joined the Owls in the summer transfer window as Ruben Amorim pushed for the youngster to gain more experience.

Amass made 21 appearances for them in the first half of the season before his loan spell ended at the beginning of January. A host of Championship clubs, including Stoke City, are believed to be interested in signing the 18-year-old for the second half of the season.

Amass was not named in the squad for Wednesday's 2-0 loss to Brentford in the FA Cup last weekend and he last played for the South Yorkshire team on January 4 at QPR. But speaking in his press conference on Thursday, Pedersen admitted he was starting to become confident Amass will return.

He said: "With Harry there is good communication, but we’ve not finalised anything. So in the end I don’t know where that will end, but I’m still positive." Pedersen then added: "I think I’m between hopeful and confident about it.

"It’s more than just hope, because there is also a belief that it can happen. But there are still many circumstances in the big picture, however I have hope and belief that it can still happen. So let’s see how things go in the next few days.

"I hope that there will be a decision soon, because otherwise we have to think what we will do instead of him." Since the loan deal was initially agreed with Wednesday for Amass, Amorim has left Old Trafford and been replaced on an interim basis by Michael Carrick.

There has been no indication United would be looking to recall Amass so he could feature for the first team this season. The Reds currently have Luke Shaw and Patrick Dorgu battling it out at left-back.
