Ahead of the Manchester derby, Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has commented on how Michael Carrick’s first few days have gone.
Having beaten Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to the position of interim head coach, Michael Carrick has gotten straight to work this week on the training ground.
Carrick was only announced on Tuesday, with a first training session on Wednesday seeing him welcome Amad and Bryan Mbeumo back to Carrington.
There were plenty of interesting moments in Carrick’s first training session, with Manchester United focused on preparing for the clash with Manchester City.
Now, Harry Maguire has spoken out over how this opening week has gone behind the scenes.

Harry Maguire impressed with Michael Carrick
Carrick is a United legend, and his return gives him the chance to further that while saving the club from the lowest point in the Premier League era.
David Ornstein says everyone in football rates Carrick, and now Maguire has heaped praise on the next man in charge.

In an interview with Sky Sports on Friday, Maguire spoke about Carrick as United’s head coach, admitting to being impressed already.
“Really impressed. I know him from before, and I spoke really highly of him. He was a magnificent coach when he was here under Ole. He’s got great ideas, he speaks really well, and tactically he’s really good.
“He’s a legend of the club, and I’m sure the fans will get right behind him, but I must say, with him and all of his coaching staff, I’ve been really impressed this week.”
Carrick has also spoken highly of Maguire this season, which makes us believe that the pair will strike up a strong relationship together at Carrington.

Maguire is well placed to start the Manchester derby for Manchester United
Maguire’s return from injury came at the perfect time for United, ahead of the sternest test of the season against Antoine Semenyo and Erling Haaland.
Ayden Heaven has been brilliant for United, but against Haaland, United need experience and someone who will give the Norwegian a physical fight.
Therefore, Maguire would be a good bet to start with Carrick, knowing him well, and after two or three days of training, expect a team that sees players that he knows.
Heaven could start going forward, but Carrick will want experience and players he trusts against City, so Maguire could be asked to step up once again.
