Michael Carrick fires back at Roy Keane for 'big mouth' comments about Man Utd boss' wife

Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick insisted that he wasn't troubled by Roy Keane's swipe at his wife and maintained he can brush off the views of former Old Trafford colleagues. Keane utilised his platform on The Overlap podcast to aim a barb at Carrick's wife, claiming she had a "big mouth" in remarks that appeared to reference Lisa's reaction to some criticism Keane directed at her husband during the 2013/14 campaign.

Carrick had conducted the television interview following United's 2-0 defeat to Olympiakos in the opening leg of a Champions League last-16 encounter, and in his punditry capacity, Keane directed his fury at the midfielder who took over his No. 16 jersey at United.

"That interview was just like the performance: flat. He should say a bit more, have a bit more urgency, even in the interview," Keane stated.

Lisa responded on social media with a blast: "Roy Keane what a **** will say anything to provoke a reaction."

Although that message was subsequently removed, Keane evidently recalled it, based on his jibe this week.

He suggested that Carrick's wife is "probably doing the team talk".

Carrick conducted his inaugural press conference since his appointment as head coach through to the season's conclusion and was questioned about the personal aspect of those remarks, but stressed it wasn't a concern for him.

"It didn't bother me," he stated, before asserting that the multitude of ex-United players now commenting on the club in the media weren't making his job more difficult.

"They're not putting more pressure on me. I don't feel that. There are plenty of opinions around, some positive, some not too much. It's totally irrelevant in terms of what I focus on.

"I know what we want to improve on, how we want to work with the players. There's a lot that can be said, it's the way of the world. I'm not gonna pay too much attention to that. For me, the players and staff, it's a focus on how we're going to succeed."
