Bruno Fernandes was linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League in the summer transfer window.

Carrick will have to lean on his best and most experienced players on Saturday, as it won’t be easy for United, so there is no doubt that he’ll be looking for leadership from Bruno Fernandes

The Man United captain was linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League in the summer, as the club reportedly wanted to cash in £100m on him. However, Fernandes wanted to stay at Old Trafford, but it’s now understood that he could leave in the summer, with just one year left on his contract.

Gary Pallister thinks Fernandes will ‘cash in’ in the summer

Seeing as Fernandes had a great relationship with Ruben Amorim, it is a strong belief that it could finally be time for the Man United captain to leave the club, especially seeing as he is now 31 years-old.

Former Man United defender Gary Pallister told ManchesterWorld exclusively that he wouldn’t be surprised if Fernandes left in the summer. He said: “I think he'd go, with the blessing of everybody at Manchester United, certainly the fans, because he's been the leading light in amongst some pretty mediocre team performances.

“He's turned down Saudi once. I mean, you get to a stage of your life where you start thinking about looking after family, and you’re no longer as young as you used to be, and his career is going to be coming to an end and and you need to cash in. Maybe he does that. I think he's earning the right to decide his own future.”

Could Fernandes leave in January?

Following Amorim’s exit, there have been reports suggesting that Fernandes could force his way out now, and leave during the January transfer window, which would really damage Carrick’s chances of qualifying for the Champions League.

However, according to BBC Sport, the Man United captain is not planning to seek a move away this month, and it was always Fernandes’ plan to re-assess his situation at Man United in the summer transfer window.

There was previous interest from Saudi side, Al-Hilal, who offered £100m for him. There is every chance that the Saudi club could come in with a similar offer in the summer, although it likely won’t be as high, because Fernandes has just one year left on his contract.

However, the report by BBC Sport claims that Fernandes would opt to stay in Europe if he could, and remain at the highest level. If that were to be the case, it would be very interesting to find out where the Portugal international would move to.
