With just over two weeks remaining before the Januarytransfer window closes, Manchester United are still being linked with a number of potential signings. The deadline for United and other Premier League clubs to finalise their transfer dealings is February 2.

United have recently appointed Michael Carrick as interim head coach until the end of the season.

Carrick's first match in charge will be this Saturday lunchtime, when United face Manchester City in the Premier League's Manchester derby.

Off the pitch, United continue to be linked with a host of prospective new signings during the January transfer window, reports the Mirror.

The provides an overview of some of the latest United transfer news and gossip that has surfaced in the past 24 hours.

Victor Osimhen claim

On his YouTube channel Rio Presents, United legend Rio Ferdinand expressed confidence that Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen could make a move to Old Trafford. He was joined by former Premier League striker Asamoah Gyan, who shared his thoughts on why he believes United could be a future destination for Osimhen.

“Victor Osimhen, he loves scoring goals, he plays with his heart, and gives everything. I’m surprised big clubs didn’t go for him in this transfer window,” said Gyan.

“But hopefully, I’m feeling Manchester United too, only if he wants to come because of their history and everything.”

Ferdinand subsequently echoed Gyan's assessment regarding Osimhen, who has previously been linked with a switch to United.

“Osimhen will come to United,” Ferdinand said. “If United offer to take Osimhen, he would go, 100%.”

United 'monitoring' Sheffield Wednesday starlet

United are being linked with a potential swoop for Sheffield Wednesday defender Yisa Alao, who is understood to be catching the eye of several Premier League sides.

According to The Sheffield Star, Wednesday remain hopeful of keeping Alao at Hillsborough despite United's interest in the 17-year-old.

Chelsea and Liverpool are also believed to be tracking Alao's progress, though reports suggest the young defender has no intention of departing Wednesday despite attention from the Premier League trio.

United, Chelsea and Liverpool have all reportedly tabled an undisclosed bid thought to be in the "mid-level six-figure" bracket.

Alao, primarily a left-back, has featured four times for Wednesday's senior side this campaign, including one Championship outing.
