Rio Ferdinand names 2 ‘lunatic’ managers Manchester United need now

Rio Ferdinand has named two lunatic managers to be considered by Manchester United in the summer. The Red Devils parted ways with Ruben Amorim earlier this month who became the sixth permanent manager to be sacked since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement.

Manchester United have appointed big names like Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho and Erik ten Hag over the last decade. However, they have not been able to rediscover the success they achieved under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Rio Ferdinand has claimed that the Red Devils have tried their luck with every kind of manager but things have not worked out. He has urged his former club to go for a lunatic manager and has suggested two names.

The former Manchester United and England defender has named Antonio Conte and Roberto De Zerbi as the two managers he would like to see at Old Trafford. He told BBC, via the Daily Mail:

"We've had every type of manager now. We've had the wily, old Louis van Gaal, we've had Jose Mourinho. Probably not at his Chelsea peak but still a massive name with great character. We've had the young, upcoming managers like (Erik) Ten Hag and Amorim. Then we've had the local legends who know the club. We now probably need to go down the lunatic road. We need to go down the people that are passionate and a bit gun-slinger type that just go at it, who won't have it from the media."

Ferdinand added:

"When I say lunatic, there are only two people that I'm looking at right now. (Antonio) Conte jumps off the page to me. I think he's somebody who would jump at the opportunity. I think he came into Chelsea and Napoli when they were both tenth or eleventh and won the league both times. So he knows how to come in and stabilise."

He concluded:

"On the other hand you've got someone that can coach their team and get a playing style and an identity very quickly. He's done it at three clubs already, and that's De Zerbi. We need elements of both of those two coaches and I'd be absolutely fine by getting either of them.'

Both Antonio Conte and Roberto De Zerbi are in jobs at the moment and are doing pretty well at their respective clubs. Conte won the Serie A title last season with Napoli while Marseille finished second in Ligue 1 under De Zerbi last time out.

Manchester United plotting a move for PL defender in the summer: Reports

Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for Nottingham Forest defender Murillo in the summer. As claimed by The Daily Mail (via The Mirror), the Brazil international would be open to a move away from the City Ground in the summer.

Murillo has been excellent for Nottingham Forest since his move from Brazilian side Corinthians in 2023. He has been almost ever-present at the heart of the defence for the Garibaldis having made 96 appearances so far.

The 23-year-old has made a name for himself thanks to his exceptional tackling ability and interceptions. Manchester United are in the hunt for a solid central defender with Harry Maguire having entered the final six months of his deal.
