Bruno Fernandes’ future at Manchester United has once again come to the forefront at Old Trafford after the sacking of Ruben Amorim by the Premier League club.

The 31-year-old Manchester United captain remained at Old Trafford for the current campaign after he was heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia last summer.

Bruno Fernandes rejected an approach from Saudi Pro League outfit Al Hilal and committed his future to the Red Devils under Ruben Amorim’s reign at the time.

But Amorim was axed from Man Utd last week and Fernandes shared a close relationship with his Portuguese compatriot after remaining as captain under him.

Fernandes inked his current United contract back in 2024 and it will run through to 2027, with the Red Devils having the option to extend for an additional 12 months.

According to BBC Sport, Fernandes had crossed paths with Carlos Fernandes, who was assistant head coach at the Red Devils, after Amorim was axed from Man Utd.

It is believed that the encounter with the key figure from Amorim’s former United coaching staff had sparked ‘fears’ over Fernandes’ role at the Red Devils.

The news outlet reports that ‘sources’ suggested that the ‘situation’ at Old Trafford in the aftermath of Amorim’s departure has not impacted Fernandes’ future.

From Darren Fletcher’s caretaker spell to Michael Carrick’s appointment as interim manager, BBC Sport says that Fernandes ‘remains committed’ to Man Utd for now.

Fernandes missed Amorim’s last three Man Utd matches due to a hamstring injury before returning for the Red Devils under former caretaker boss Darren Fletcher.

The Man Utd skipper played 61 minutes of United’s 2-2 draw against Burnley at Turf Moor before featuring for 90 minutes in the 2-1 defeat to Brighton in the FA Cup.

Fernandes has kept the captain’s armband under United legend Michael Carrick, who returned to the club on Tuesday to serve as interim boss until the end of the season.

The Portugal international ascended to the role of Man Utd captain under Erik ten Hag after Harry Maguire was stripped of the Premier League club’s armband.
