Everything you need to know about Michael Carrick's wife and the new Manchester United manager's spat with Roy Keane

Michael Carrick and his wife, Lisa Roughead, have been together since they were 15 after meeting as teenagers at their school in Newcastle. Their long-standing relationship has spanned his entire professional career, from his early days at West Ham to his new role.

The couple were married on June 16, 2007, during a ceremony held at St Peter's Church in Wymondham, Leicestershire. Lisa is a Pilates instructor and is also involved in running her husband's charity, the Michael Carrick Foundation.

Carrick and Lisa have two children together, a daughter named Louise and a son named Jacey. Jacey is currently following in his father's footsteps as a member of the Manchester United youth academy.

After the sacking of Ruben Amorim this month, Carrick, formerly the manager of Middlesbrough, was appointed as United's interim manager until the end of the current season. He has been caretaker boss at Old Trafford before when taking the reins from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer briefly in 2021.

The history of friction with Roy Keane dates back to 2014, when Carrick's wife, Lisa, wrote on social media: "Roy Keane what a **** will say anything to provoke a reaction." The statement was soon deleted and Lisa explained afterwards that her emotions had gotten the better of her.

Lisa's post came after Keane criticised Carrick's post-match interview that year as United were defeated by Olympiacos. Keane said: "That interview was just like the performance: flat. He [Carrick] should say a bit more, have a bit more urgency, even in the interview."

Following Carrick's 2026 appointment, Keane reignited the feud by bringing up Lisa while questioning the club's decision to appoint Carrick. Speaking on the Stick To Football podcast, Keane said: "His wife can always come in [if Carrick doesn't do well], cause she's got a bit of a big mouth sometimes. She's probably doing the team talk."

In his first official press conference on January 16, Carrick addressed the personal comments by stating: "It didn't bother me. They're not putting more pressure on me. I don't feel that. There are plenty of opinions around, some positive, some not too much. It's totally irrelevant in terms of what I focus on."
