Newcastle Line Up £22M Bid For Centre-Back But They Face Competition From Man United And 2 Other PL Clubs

Newcastle United could table an offer in the region of £22m for Sassuolo centre-back Tarik Muharemovic, according to reports in Bosnia.

The Magpies are currently short of numbers in the middle of the defence, and Sport Sport have confirmed that Eddie Howe’s side are willing to “do everything” to secure the defender’s signature this month.

Sassuolo have already declared that Muharemovic will be going nowhere during the January transfer window.

However, it is believed that the Serie A side could be tempted to sell up if a sizeable enough bid is made.

Newcastle will have competition for the player

Sport Sport have also named three other Premier League clubs as potential suitors for Muharemovic.

Manchester United, Tottenham and Bournemouth are also in the mix, while current Serie A leaders Inter Milan are said to have an interest in the centre-half as well.

Due to Sassuolo’s stance, there is no guarantee that Muharemovic will be on the move in January, but he is certainly not short of potential destinations.

Muharemovic will add depth in a key position

It has been confirmed that Fabian Schar will be out for up to three months with an ankle injury. The Swiss international was stretchered off during the 4-3 win over Leeds last week, and he has now undergone surgery.

Dan Burn is also still on the treatment table, and with reports also suggesting that former captain Jamaal Lascelles could be allowed to leave St James’ Park this month, Howe could be left with just two fit centre-backs in Sven Botman and Malick Thiaw.

For that reason, signing someone like Muharemovic could provide much-needed relief in a position where the Magpies are extremely short of options. It is definitely a transfer story to keep an eye on.
