Manchester United are interested in signing Al-Hilal midfielder Ruben Neves this month, according to reports.
The Old Trafford side have reportedly identified the former Wolverhampton Wanderers ace as their potential first signing under new interim boss Michael Carrick and have started working towards a possible deal.
Neves could be on the move in January, with Al-Hilal potentially looking to cash in on the 28-year-old midfielder at their final opportunity. The Portugal international’s £340,000-a-week contract expires in less than six months, and Al-Hilal are believed to be seeking a fee of around £20m for his signature.

According to journalist Pete O’Rourke, Neves is keen to return to Europe after two-and-a-half years in Saudi Arabia, but a deal in January remains unlikely at this stage.
While his eye-watering wages present an obstacle for interested clubs, Al-Hilal’s asking price of around £20m is also viewed as a stumbling block. United are believed to have explored a potential deal with Neves’ agent Jorge Mendes, but it remains to be seen whether any pursuit could materialise.
Neves spent six years with Wolves before leaving in 2023, making 253 appearances, including 177 in the Premier League, scoring 30 goals and providing 13 assists during his time at Molineux.
The 28-year-old has made 20 appearances for Al-Hilal this season, scoring seven goals, and has lifted four trophies during his time in the Middle East, including the Saudi Pro League title in 2024.

Following Carrick’s appointment as interim head coach, United have shifted their focus towards potentially bolstering the former midfielder’s squad before the end of the transfer window.
According to GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Ben Jacobs, the Red Devils have held secret talks with an unnamed midfielder over a potential loan move. The player in question is reportedly playing outside England and has Premier League experience, something United chiefs are believed to be prioritising in the market.
The Old Trafford side have yet to register any major transfer activity in January following Ruben Amorim’s exit last week.
United splashed out well over £200m on new arrivals last summer, with Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko and Senne Lammens joining.
