Man Utd star is untouchable for Michael Carrick after 10 duel-winning performance, best game for the club - Opinion

Michael Carrick will have loved every minute of his first Manchester derby as Manchester United head coach, watching his team control proceedings from start to finish.

It was a real shock to see this Manchester United side completely thrash Manchester City with a performance which could have resulted in a cricket score.

United had three close offside goals disallowed, hit the woodwork twice, and forced big saves from Gianluigi Donnarumma.

It was a display that saw Pep Guardiola left in shock, while Michael Carrick celebrated with his team.

Following the game, Carrick has hailed Matheus Cunha and also Kobbie Mainoo; however, there was one performance that isn’t getting highlighted, but was impressive.

Patrick Dorgu is making the left-wing position his own at Manchester United

Within Carrick’s starting line-up, one surprise starter was Patrick Dorgu, who was named as the left winger, as Cunha dropped to the bench.

Dorgu grabbed this opportunity with both hands as he scored his second goal of the season, continuing to prove he is a winger more than a wing-back or full-back.

After scoring the second goal against City, Dorgu now has two goals and two assists in his last six Premier League games as a winger.

This is a better contribution rate than most other wingers, and shows that perhaps Ruben Amorim had completely mis-profiled the Danish youngster.

Dorgu played all 90 minutes, creating one chance, scoring, and completing one dribble.

He also tracked back and helped combat Rayan Cherki and Phil Foden, making four tackles, nine recoveries, and winning 10 duels.

Dorgu isn’t the biggest name for United in attack, but in this performance, he proved himself to be undroppable right now.

Dorgu is proving Ruben Amorim wrong over criticisms

In the past month, Dorgu has strung together a real level of consistency at United, looking the part as a winger, as opposed to being more defensive.

United fans were impressed with Dorgu after his goal, and it sees him continue to prove Ruben Amorim wrong.

Earlier this season, Amorim had harsh criticism for Dorgu, admitting he feels anxiety when the Dane touches the ball, which now looks foolish.

These kinds of comments led to Amorim losing the team, with Carrick already showing man-management masterclasses with how he spoke post-match.

Dorgu looks like he will now push on to reach his potential, and Carrick could be who extracts it.
