Hull City have agreed a deal to sign Manchester United midfielder Toby Collyer on loan until the end of the season, with the 22-year-old expected to be part of the party that travels to Preston North End on Tuesday night.
City expect to wrap up the deal on Monday with Collyer becoming City's first signing of the January transfer window, in what will be a major boost to Sergej Jakirovic, after United gave the green light to complete the deal.
The club are also expected to complete the signing of Yu Hirakawa from Bristol City on loan until the end of the season, in what will be another major shot in the arm for the Tigers, who roared to a big 2-1 win at Southampton on Saturday to move back into the Championship's top six.
Collyer spent the first half of the season on loan at West Brom and played 12 times before returning to Old Trafford last month amid talks with the Championship promotion chasers, having been nursing a calf problem which he's since recovered from.
The Tigers had hoped to sign Collyer in the summer, but the United youngster opted to go to the Hawthorns. It is thought that he has been impressed by City's season and made it clear that he would like to link up with Jakirovic's side.
At this stage, it's not expected that the Old Trafford man will feature in a playing capacity at Deepdale on Tuesday night, though he is expected to travel with his new teammates. However, assuming the deal is completed, Japan international Hirakawa could be in the squad with plenty of gametime under his belt in recent weeks.
Collyer will then train for the remainder of the week, and it's hoped he will be fit enough to be in the matchday squad when City host Welsh outfit Swansea City at the MKM Stadium on Saturday.
