Man Utd have been urged to make a move for one of Europe's top strikers by ex-defender Rio Ferdinand
Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand believes that Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen would definitely make the move to Old Trafford if the Red Devils made an offer to sign him.
The Nigerian international has 161 goals at club level during his career, along with 36 assists. He joined Turkish side Galatasaray permanently from Serie A outfit Napoli for around £65m in the summer.
He was linked with a move to United along with several of Europe’s top clubs during the summer as Napoli were keen to offload him. However, Galatasaray were the only club willing to meet his wage demands, after he spent the 2024-25 campaign on loan with the Turkish outfit.
Speaking to ex-Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan on his YouTube channel, the pair discussed Osimhen’s qualities with Ferdinand insisting he would want to come to Old Trafford.
“Victor Osimhen, he loves scoring goals, he plays with his heart, and gives everything. I’m surprised big clubs didn’t go for him in this transfer window. Hopefully, I’m feeling Manchester United too, only if he wants to come because of their history and everything,” Gyan said.
Ferdinand then insisted: “Osimhen will come to United, if United offer to take Osimhen, he would go, 100%.”
“That is the type of striker we need right now, we have Mbeumo on the side doing what he needs to do,” Gyan then added.
The Red Devils are unlikely to do any transfer business in January unless it makes financial sense. They are in talks with a midfielder over a loan deal for the rest of the campaign.
Any big signings will likely have to wait until the summer when United have appointed their next permanent manager.
Interim boss Michael Carrick got his reign off to a dream start with a 2-0 win over Manchester City at Old Trafford.
Speaking after the game, defender Lisandro Martinez revealed how a message from Carrick before the game inspired United to victory.
He said: "Unbelievable. Unbelievable. Being here with the fans, with the team we really know how we suffer during the season. But the only way is putting the face here and showing here who we are. Today is the best moment to do it. Not just the players on the pitch, the staff, everyone was part of that.
"I think one important thing that Michael Carrick said was 'use the energy of the people' and today I think we did it and when we are together like this it is impossible to lose at home.
"When you play against these kind of players, the team defend. Not just one or two players. Today we defend so good, we were compact all the times. And then you have the confidence to go to the duels. Today you feel a different energy when you see the eyes of the players. Today the team won and that is the most important thing."
