Manchester United allow player to leave on free transfer–% of next move

The Turkish media are now reporting the details of Sam Mather’s transfer from Manchester United to Kayserispor.

The young attacker has signed for Kayserispor, after the Super Lig club indentified English football as a route to sign young players.

We covered reports earlier this month that Kayserispor were in transfer negotiations with Manchester United for Mather. At the time, they were in talks to sign 21-year-old Manchester City defender Jadel Katongo, a negotiation which also turned out succesful.

Mather travelled to Turkey over a week ago to go through his transfer process.

Hurriyet today reveal the details of Mather’s move, with it present as a good deal for Kayserispor. No transfer fee has been paid for the 21-year-old.

According to the Turkish media outlet, the winger has signed a two and a half year deal.

However, the Red Devils have secured something from the transfer. Should Kayserispor sell Mather, Manchester United will be due a percentage of the fee.

The Old Trafford club have also confirmed Mather has left.

‘Manchester United forward Sam Mather has joined Kayserispor on a permanent deal. The 21-year-old has featured predominantly for our Academy sides and was part of our FA Youth Cup-winning squad in 2022. Mather has previously enjoyed loan spells at both Rochdale and Tranmere Rovers. Mather joined the Reds as a teenager and memorably scored four times against Norwich City back in January 2024 for our Under-21s. The forward will link up with Kayserispor. They currently 16th in the Turkish Super Lig and are managed by Radomir Dalovic,’ a statement read on the Premier League club’s official website.

Mather came through the Manchester United youth system after joining them in 2010. However, the young forward never made the breakthrough to the first team. This resulted in loan moves to EFL clubs.

Mather has represented England at multiple youth levels.
