Man City’s biggest xG defeat

United left Old Trafford feeling hard done by to have only scored twice.

Mason Mount’s goal was disallowed by VAR, while Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo also had goals chalked off.

Of course, those efforts won’t count towards United’s expected goals tally, but even without them, the Red Devils amassed an xG of 3.81.

Man United outworked Man City

Before the match, Carrick demanded energy and intensity from his players. In his first interview as head coach, he kept repeating the phrase ‘hard work’.

That is exactly what he got from his players at Old Trafford.

As per BBC Sport, United covered more distance than City, with players covering a combined 111 kilometres during the game. United players were also sprinting for 9% of their distance.

United also won more ground and aerial duels and completed more interceptions than City. Carrick corrected United’s basics, and it resulted in a sensational performance.

Bruno Fernandes domination

United captain Bruno Fernandes has returned to an attacking midfield role under Carrick, and he put on a complete masterclass up against Rodri.
