Oliver Glasner has been told to give serious thought over whether Manchester United would be the right club for him. The Austrian has been linked with a move to Old Trafford as a long-term replacement for Ruben Amorim.
Michael Carrick was appointed until the end of the season, with a move for a more established name expected in the summer - Glasner among the options. But former Premier League star Thomas Hitzlsperger has suggested that a switch to United may be the wrong move.
“Crystal Palace coach Oliver Glasner is in talks. I have a high opinion of him, but he needs to consider whether he really wants to do it,” he said to Blick.
“The environment isn’t easy. There’s a lot of mistrust, a lot of infighting. The stakes are enormous; the club is huge. The fans still remember the days under Sir Alex Ferguson, and the frustration is immense.
“On top of that, there are countless former players who comment on everything and are very critical of the manager.
“Former professional Michael Carrick is now taking over until the end of the season. I think that’s a good thing. He knows how the club operates and gives the management some breathing room.”
Glasner put his position under fresh scrutiny on Saturday following a 2-1 defeat to Sunderland in the Premier League. He slammed the club’s decision to sell Marc Guehi to Manchester City in a brutal dig at Palace bosses just days after admitting he would be leaving at the end of the season.
He said: "We feel like we're being abandoned completely. Selling our captain one day before a game - there is no understanding for this.

"We are preparing and then yesterday [Friday], I get told that our captain will be sold, but why not next week? At least he can play this game and then next week, other players are coming back. It makes me really upset.
"If your heart gets ripped out twice a year, with [Eberechi] Eze one day before a game in the summer and your captain one day before a game - I've just got no understanding.”
Asked if he could leave before the end of the campaign, he replied: “I don't know. I always have a huge appreciation for this group of players. I completely trust them. Their character is exceptional and we will stick together and turn around.
“I will never step back because these players deserve Oliver Glasner as their manager and leader and this is what I will do. Sometimes it would help if we had a little bit of support."
