Manchester United youngster Sam Mather has left the club for Turkish side Kayserispor. The 21-year-old joined the club as a youngster and rose through their academy ranks.
But he has now left Old Trafford without making a senior appearance for the Red Devils, having completed a move to Turkey. A statement from United read: “Manchester United forward Sam Mather has joined Kayserispor on a permanent deal.
“The 21-year-old has featured predominantly for our Academy sides and was part of our FA Youth Cup-winning squad in 2022.
“Mather has previously enjoyed loan spells at both Rochdale and Tranmere Rovers, but is set to embark on a fresh chapter in Turkey. Mather joined the Reds as a teenager and memorably scored four times against Norwich City back in January 2024 for our Under-21s at Old Trafford.
“The forward will link up with Kayserispor, who are currently 16th in the Turkish Super Lig and are managed by Radomir Dalovic. Everyone at United wishes Sam all the best in his next footballing step.”
Mather has signed a two-and-a-half year deal with his new side and will certainly be hoping for more opportunities. He has made just 12 senior appearances in all with Tranmere and Rochdale - both loan spells having been impacted by injuries.
He could potentially be handed a debut on Monday evening as Kayserispor take on Super Lig giants Besiktas. Mather is not the only Red Devils youngster set to be on the way out of Old Trafford this month.

Fellow academy graduate Toby Collyer could leave sooner rather than later. Reports have suggested that Championship side Hull City have agreed a deal to sign the midfielder on loan until the end of the season.
There is hope that the deal will be concluded in time for Collyer to be included in the squad to take on Preston North End in midweek. The midfielder spent the first half of the campaign with fellow second-tier side West Bromwich Albion but was recalled after an injury-hit few months at the Hawthorns.
Meanwhile, Kobbie Mainoo now looks set to stay at the club for the remainder of the campaign despite having been frozen out by Ruben Amorim. The midfielder was restored to the starting lineup over the weekend as United beat Manchester City 2-0 at Old Trafford.
