Bernardo Silva’s admission about Manchester United win vs City speaks volumes

Manchester United’s impressive performance against Manchester City was a one-sided show of dominance from the Red Devils.

From the first whistle, Manchester United took the game to Manchester City and attacked. Harry Maguire was unfortunate not to score when he hit the bar in the third minute.

United netted twice in the first half, with both goals disallowed, before eventually scoring two goals in the second half to seal a 2-0 win.

There was still time to hit the post and have another goal disallowed. It was a performance that had fans doing a double-take and checking that it was Michael Carrick in the dugout and not Sir Alex Ferguson.

Bernardo Silva admission

Manchester United’s derby win had Pep Guardiola waving the white flag by taking Erling Haaland off after 80 minutes.

Speaking after United’s 2-0 victory, City’s Bernardo Silva offered no excuses, telling City media: “They deserved to win today”.

What was even more telling was his admission that he felt like Manchester United were close to scoring whenever they attacked.

He added: “They had more energy and intention. It always felt like they were close to score and we were never there. We gave them what they want.”

Commending Michael Carrick’s tactics, he added: “They took the game to where they are good and we are not so good.

“Since I arrived here in England we have always been a very controlled team. There was a lot of things missing from us. Definitely a bad day for us.

“After a day like today, I don’t think we have any excuses. It was a really bad performance from us.”

Silva’s admission speaks volumes about Manchester United’s dominance, offering no excuses for the way City capitulated.

United’s flying attack

Manchester United actually have a pretty good goalscoring record this season, in comparison to other teams.

United have scored 38 goals in total, the third best in the Premier League.

Only Arsenal (40) and City (45) have more.

It’s an impressive figure that Ruben Amorim deserves some credit for, but there are also questions, like how did this side fail to score against Everton, and only net one at home to Wolves?

United should have had six or seven at home to City, such was the level of dominance and tight offside calls.

But even aside from this, United were wasteful, hitting the woodwork and forcing Gianluigi Donnarumma into five saves.

There is a case for United to get even more ruthless.
