Erling Haaland had no impact in the derby as Manchester United came out on top against Manchester City.
A 2-0 win against Manchester City gave Michael Carrick the perfect start to his interim spell as Manchester United head coach.
Carrick’s game plan stumped Pep Guardiola, with United lining up in a 4-4-2 and hitting City on the counter-attack.

The goals came from Bryan Mbeumo and Patrick Dorgu, but in defence, Lisandro Martinez was excellent alongside Harry Maguire.
Tasked with marking the in-form Erling Haaland, the United duo kept City’s striker silent.

Erling Haaland hooked in Manchester derby
City only managed one shot on Senne Lammens’ goal in the derby. No team in the Premier League has scored more than Guardiola’s side, but they were thwarted by a brilliant defensive display at Old Trafford.
In particular, Haaland had very little impact on the game. The Norwegian, who was linked with United before joining City, was taken off with 10 minutes left.

According to The Athletic, it was the 34th time that Haaland has been taken off since moving to City, but the first in his City career that he has been taken off while chasing a game.
Haaland was dejected as he left the pitch, and a dive into his match stats shows just how little impact he had.
Erling Haaland had no impact vs Man United
Haaland was given no time or space by the partnership of Maguire and Martinez. Wherever he positioned himself, the United duo were ready to pounce.
As per SofaScore, Haaland only managed 14 touches of the ball, and he only completed three passes in the match.
It was the lowest number of touches that Haaland has had in a Premier League game this season.

He also failed to make a single defensive contribution and lost possession four times for City. He ended the match with a 6.4 rating.
Haaland may boast a good scoring record against United, but Carrick found a way to completely isolate him at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
