The latest Man Utd transfer news updates with two weeks left of the January window.

Manchester United are set to hold fresh transfer talks early this week to discuss whether they should add to their squad in the January transfer window.

There are now just two weeks left of the winter window before it closes on 2 February, and time is running out for any side to complete a transfer. United sources have reiterated the plan is to spend big in the summer, and there is an acceptance that top targets will not be available this month.

United would feel comfortable ending the window with the same squad they have now, though they will remain alert to any market opportunities that might arise. That was demonstrated earlier in January, when United expressed an interest in signing Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth, before he eventually opted for Man City instead.

United to hold transfer meeting this week

Manchester United still plan to refresh their midfield in the summer, with an elite signing expected in that position. United would like to sign someone with Premier League experience, with Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson identified as the top target in that role.

United are also expected to sign a new left winger after their change to a 4-3-2-1 formation, while they could also be in the market for reinforcement at full-back and competition for Benjamin Sesko in attack. If they are to make a move in the January window, it appears a midfielder or winger would be the most likely addition.

Speaking in his latest YouTube video, notorious transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano issued an update on United's transfer plans, with a fresh meeting expected to be held early this week. "In the next hours, at the very beginning of this week, there will be an internal meeting at Manchester United, involving the ideas of Michael Carrick," Romano said.

"It is not him who decides, but he will be involved in the conversation to decide on several situations, what they want to do on the market from now until the end of the January window. If they want to go and get a player, maybe in midfield, maybe a striker. They need to assess and decide with Michael Carrick or not change the plan and continue with the current squad and invest in the summer. The big investments of Manchester United will be made in the summer when they will have a permanent manager, when they will continue their project. Now could be about the opportunities and they want to discuss them internally.

"In Italy, Roma, Juventus are waiting to see if United will open the door for Joshua Zirkzee. If they add one more player, maybe they can give the green light to an exit. Man United are yet to decide."
