Man Utd confirmed the transfer exit just hours after they defeated Manchester City in the Premier League.
Manchester United have finally confirmed the permanent exit of forward Sam Mather in the January transfer window.
The 21-year-old took to social media earlier in the month to confirm he would leave his boyhood club after a 14-year spell, but he had to wait for official confirmation of his move to Turkish club Kayserispor.
Mather was still contracted to United until June 2027, but decided he wanted to leave the club this season after he had outgrown youth football and was unlikely to make an impact at first team level. He has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Turkish side and could make his debut when they face Besiktas on Monday night. It is understood United did not receive a transfer fee for the forward, but agreed a deal that would see them receive 20 per cent of any future sale.

United confirm Mather exit
Sam Mather's permanent exit from Manchester United was announced just hours after they defeated Man City in the Premier League and might have been missed by many supporters.
In a statement posted on the official club website, United said: "Manchester United forward Sam Mather has joined Kayserispor on a permanent deal. The 21-year-old has featured predominantly for our Acdemy sides and was part of our FA Youth Cup-winning squad in 2022. Mather has previously enjoyed loan spells at both Rochdale and Tranmere Rovers, but is set to embark on a fresh chapter in Turkey.
"Mather joined the Reds as a teenager and memorably scored four times against Norwich City back in January 2024 for our Under-21s at Old Trafford. The forward will link up with Kayserispor, who are currently 16th in the Turkish Super Lig and are managed by Radomir Dalovic. Everyone at United wishes Sam all the best in his next footballing step."
Mather had been in advanced talks to join Kayserispor on deadline day of the Turkish window last summer, but the deal collapsed due to the lack of time to complete the move. He took to social media over the weekend to post a picture in his new kit, along with the caption: "Time to get to work."
Earlier in the month, the Salford-born forward reacted to his exit and thanked his boyhood club for the key role they played in his development. "After 14 years my time at @manutd has come to an end, I would like to thank all the staff and players who have helped me become the person and player I am today," he wrote on Instagram. "I will always be grateful for my time here and wish the club all the best. On a personal note it's time for me to move forward and I can't wait to get started!"
Mather was part of the squad that won the FA Youth Cup in 2022, along with the likes of Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho. He signed his first professional contract with the club in September 2021 and was a regular in first-team training under various managers, including Ruben Amorim.
