Michael Carrick seems to have already surpassed the authority that Ralf Rangnick had at Man Utd after just one game by getting something the Austrian couldn’t after six months.
Just like Ralf Rangnick, Michael Carrick has also arrived with the clear intention to be Man Utd manager for just six months.
In fact, Carrick should theoretically have even less authority than Rangnick, since the plan was for the Austrian to become the club’s Director of Football after finishing his coaching role.

However, as it turns out, Carrick has already surpassed that level of authority, impressing Ineos enough to win after one game what Rangnick couldn’t after six months.

Man Utd completely misused Ralf Rangnick
The whole Rangnick experiment failed spectacularly because Erik ten Hag came with such high demands that the Glazers were caught off guard.
The first order of business Ten Hag did after taking the job was to send Rangnick packing, with his dossier on players and all that.
It brought an end to one of the most confusing spells in Man Utd history, because the club somehow used Rangnick for the thing he’s least good at – managing.

That was reflected in how he was treated when he spoke about transfers, as his player recommendations were all discarded and cast aside without a second thought.
From Julian Alvarez to Erling Haaland, and from Enzo Fernandez to Josko Gvardiol and Luis Diaz, Rangnick came prepared to have a voice in the transfer market, and rightly so.
After all, he was coming in with the thought that he’d be leading the club’s recruitment, but all that was discarded as Ten Hag brought his own recruitment policy, which was basically signing players he knew!
Rangnick couldn’t get the board to give him a voice in the transfer market after six months. Carrick seems to have done it after a game.

Carrick’s week straight from the stuff of dreams just got better because Fabrizio Romano reports he’s set to be given a voice in the club’s transfer planning.

Despite being at Old Trafford for six months without a promise of any future role, unlike Rangnick, Carrick is set to shape the club’s January window.
Not much movement is expected from the club regardless of who the manager is, but this news coming out is a clear sign from the board to show how much trust he’s already earned.
They know that Carrick will look after the long-term future of the club even if he’s here for the short term, unlike Ruben Amorim, who basically wanted a team of peak 29-year-olds to win some games.
Making him a part of the club’s planning talks could also be a soft launch to see how well he deals with that side of things, if they ever consider extending his deal.
Either way, Rangnick could be forgiven for feeling completely betrayed by United.
