Wolves have until the transfer deadline on Monday 2nd February to complete any final bits of incoming or outgoing business
Wolves drew 0-0 at home to Newcastle United over the weekend in their latest outing. Neither team were able to find a winner at Molineux and they settled for a point. Rob Edwards’ side remain bottom of the Premier League table after 22 fixtures.
They are inside the drop zone along with Burnley and West Ham. The Midlands outfit have won only once in the league this season and are 14 points from safety behind Nottingham Forest in 17th. They are back in action this Saturday with an away trip to the Etihad Stadium to play Manchester City as they aim to keep their recent momentum going.
Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes transfer update amid interest from elsewhere
According to this latest update regarding his future by CaughtOffside, Manchester United remain interested in luring him to Old Trafford down the line. Crystal Palace, Atletico Madrid and Napoli have also been mentioned as potential suitors. However, Liverpool’s interest is said to have cooled for the time being.
Gomes, 24, joined Wolves back in 2023 and has since become one of their most prized assets. He has made 112 appearances for them in all competitions and has scored seven goals, four of which came last term. Prior to his switch to England, he rose up through the academy at Flamengo and broke into their first-team as a youngster before leaving South America.
Wolves should arrange Manchester United swap deal
Wolves should try and get a player in return for Gomes if Manchester United come calling for his services. With that in mind, left-back Harry Amass would be a perfect long-term option if they managed to get him on a permanent basis. At the age of just 18, the defender has a bright future ahead of him and has bags of potential. Of course, you’d expect United to still have to pay Wolves a decent fee too, in a player-plus-cash deal.
Amass, who is an England youth international, would battle it out with Hugo Bueno for a place in Edwards’ starting XI. He is unlikely to break into the first-team of the Red Devils due to players like Luke Shaw and Patrick Dorgu ahead of him in the pecking order. Therefore, leaving for more game time elsewhere would be a sensible move for him.
The London-born man started out at Watford and was a regular for the Hornets at various different youth levels before United landed him in 2024. He has since played seven matches for the senior team of his current club, all of which came last term. Amass was given the green light to join Sheffield Wednesday on loan for the first half of this season.
Despite their struggles in the second tier, Amass caught the eye at Hillsborough. He enjoyed plenty of minutes with the Owls under Henrik Pedersen to get some experience and boost his development. The teenager is now back in the North West though and it remains to be seen what will happen next.
