Newcastle United transfer encouragement for Croatian – Magpies in tussle Real Madrid

Newcastle United and Real Madrid are in the picture to sign Hajduk Split’s Branimir Mlačić.

That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who cover Newcastle United and Real Madrid when reporting the latest on Inter Milan.

Liverpool have also shown interest in the 18-year-old. On December 11th, we covered claims from Italy that Inter have overtaken the Reds in the transfer race. Gazzetta now bring Newcastle United and Real Madrid into the mix.

The Nerazzurri had stepped up their efforts by meeting his entourage in Milan. They have been optimistic of concluding the deal for the centre-back in the winter market.

However, there is a new twist in this case, and it favours Newcastle United, Real Madrid and other clubs.

Gazzetta say that a few days ago, the Serie A side were confident of Mlačić’s arrival at the San Siro this month. The Croatia U21 international was on his way to join Inter, who have a deal in place with Hajduk Split.

The newspaper claims ‘everything has changed’ now as the young defender has ‘not taken one but dozen steps back’.

Mlačić has decided to change agents and is now represented by Fali Ramadani, he’s moving to pick a club other than Inter. Eddie Howe’s side, Real Madrid and other clubs can take advantage of this situation.

Gazzetta report other offers have arrived for the player. They immediately state Como, Udinese, Newcastle United, Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund are all chasing him.

It’s not clear whether the Magpies made an offer for him. With several clubs in the mix, the report insists ‘an auction’ could take place.

The Croatian has decided to leave Hajduk Split and not move to Inter. This is clearly a boost for Newcastle United and others. His next destination is still to be clarified.
