Oliver Glasner emerged as one of the leading candidates to become Manchester United’s next permanent head coach after Ruben Amorim was given his marching orders at Old Trafford.
Although Manchester United appointed Michael Carrick as head coach last week, the search for the next permanent option has begun.
Carrick has a temporary role until the end of the season, and it remains to be seen whether he will be among the contenders in the summer, which may depend on whether United qualify for the Champions League.

It has been two weeks of drama at Old Trafford with Ruben Amorim sacked, United crashing out of the FA Cup third round, and Carrick’s return coming with a 2-0 win over Man City in the 198th Manchester derby.
While Carrick tries to build a case to earn the job permanently, another candidate believed to be under consideration is struggling in the Premier League.

Jamie Carragher doesn’t think Oliver Glasner is the man for Man Utd
Crystal Palace’s results in recent weeks have negatively impacted Oliver Glasner’s candidacy for the United job.
At a time when the Austrian coach could do with his stock rising, Palace extended their winless run to 10 games at the weekend, losing 2-1 against Sunderland.

Although results won’t help, Glasner was seen as a top target after Amorim’s dismissal. That means he has admirers with United’s board.
Glasner has since revealed he won’t be renewing his contract at Palace, meaning he will leave at the end of the season unless the board at Selhurst Park decide to sack him before then.
Former Liverpool defender turned pundit Jamie Carragher explained why he thinks Glasner is not the right fit for United.
Palace have primarily played in a back three system under Glasner. It is different to the system Amorim insisted on at United, but there has never been a great United team that played with three at the back.
“Now, when I look at Glasner, straight away I’d say no because of the system. Straight away,” Carragher said on the Sky Sports Premier League Podcast.
“[Andoni] Irola has done a brilliant job and was linked with a top job, but for me, Bournemouth and Manchester United is a huge jump.
“It is. I’d say the same with Marco Silva, who again I’m a big fan of and no disrespect to those managers or the club I’m going to mention, I think the next step would be Tottenham. Iraola, Marco Silva, that for me feels more Tottenham-like than Manchester United.”

Oliver Glasner rant may rule him out of Man Utd job
A week on from Palace’s humiliating FA Cup defeat against non-league outfit Macclesfield, Crystal Palace’s winless run continued against Sunderland.
Glasner also confirmed that he would be leaving Selhurst Park at the end of the season when his contract expires.
After suffering defeat at the weekend, Glasner said he had spent the full week preparing for the trip to the Stadium of Light with Marc Guehi in his plans, until he was informed on Friday morning that Palace had agreed a deal with Man City for his transfer.
“I feel we are being abandoned completely,” Glasner told BBC Match of the Day.
“We have 12, 13 players from the squad available and we feel no support.
“The worst thing is selling our captain one day before playing a Premier League game.”
Glasner’s comments show he is not afraid to question the board, while Amorim was sacked less than 24 hours after he challenged Ineos during a post-match press conference at Elland Road.
In Miguel Delaney’s latest newsletter for The Independent, the reliable reporter claims that Glasner is liked by United, but his recent comments have been off-putting for several clubs.
Delaney wrote: “A number of major clubs – including United – admire Oliver Glasner, but several senior figures raised their eyebrows at his comments over the weekend. They hadn’t quite expected that. It’s understood that one executive is now reconsidering appointing him, particularly over how he “ran to the press.”
Glasner’s comments may hinder his chances of landing a big job, with owners like Ratcliffe wanting a man who will focus on the players available as well as protect the club and its staff in the media.
