David Beckham has been the subject of a scathing statement from his son, Brooklyn, who accused his father of controlling him, among other things. But the Manchester United icon's own Father's Day message from last summer says a lot.
Since his 2022 marriage to actress Nicola Peltz, the Beckham family's eldest, Brooklyn, seemingly kept his distance from parents Victoria and David amid suggestions that a familial rift had formed. Their attendance or lack thereof at Victoria's 50th birthday and then David's caused quite the stir.
This week, Brooklyn broke his silence in a mic-dropping fashion, releasing a six-page statement on social media filled with allegations. He claims his mother "hijacked" his and Peltz's wedding and that his parents have long been controlling his life.
Brooklyn included in his statement that he does not wish to reconcile with his family, including father David, but the former England star posted his own statement with a vastly different tone just last year.
In June 2025, Beckham took to Instagram with a picture of his four children on Father's Day and accompanied it with a heartfelt caption, which acted as a message to his kids.
"My most important and favourite job in life is being a dad," he wrote. "I'm so proud of all of you and like daddy (sorry boys) tells you every single day, I will always be here for you no matter what…"
But Brooklyn apparently sees things a little differently. The 26-year-old included in his statement details of a disagreement over naming rights, and he claims both Victoria and David have been off with him since.

"My parents have been trying endlessly to ruin my relationship since before my wedding, and it hasn't stopped," wrote Brooklyn. "Weeks before our big day, my parents repeatedly pressured and attempted to bribe me into signing away the rights to my name, which would have affected me, my wife, and our future children.
"They were adamant on me signing before my wedding date because then the terms of the deal would be initiated. My holdout affected the payday, and they have never treated me the same since."
Brooklyn also alleges that during his father's 50th birthday celebrations in the summer of 2025, David refused to see him unless his wife Nicola was excluded.

David's eldest continued: "We travelled to London for my dad's birthday and were rejected for a week as we waited in our hotel room trying to plan quality time with him.
"He refused all of our attempts, unless it was at his big birthday party with a hundred guests and cameras at every corner. When he finally agreed to see me, it was under the condition that Nicola wasn't invited. It was a slap in the face.
"My family values public promotion and endorsements above all else. Brand Beckham comes first. Family 'love' is decided by how much you post on social media, or how quickly you drop everything to show up and pose for a family photo opp, even if it's at the expense of our professional obligations."
