Tottenham have been languishing in the bottom half of the EPL table.
If we look at the midfield at Hotspur Way right now, many supporters would look at that and still go, “there is no depth,” and this is something that has held true for a while given how the North Londoners’ fans have been crying for the club to bring in more quality players in the middle of the park for a long time.
But that is something that still holds true despite the fact that the club did sanction a move to pry away England international Conor Gallagher from under the noses of Aston Villa. The Lilywhites secured his signatures in a move worth around £34m from Atletico Madrid (almost as much as they paid to Chelsea when they took him to Spain).
Gallagher was also a longtime target at Hotspur Way, given how Tottenham tried to secure the 25-year-old’s signature in almost all the windows that Ange Postecoglou was in charge of proceedings at N17. But while he is now finally a Spurs player, this has played a domino effect in the future of another long-term Lilywhites target.

Tottenham have been following €25m worth Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney for a long time as well, but the North Londoners have reportedly ruled themselves out of a possible move to sign the 23-year-old. And given his performances, he is one of the standout players in the secondary tier of English football.
With less than 18 months left on his current deal, Hackney’s future has started to become more of a conversation with multiple Premier League clubs vying for his signature. Tottenham has been right in the middle of that for a long time alongside the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City.
The report from CaughtOffside states that the North Londoners will be looking to strengthen the squad in other places after having signed Gallagher. And this will come as music to the ears of the Manchester clubs.

Tottenham do have urgent needs in the defensive as well as attacking side of the roster. And it looks like the club are set to look into those now that Frank has added the Chelsea academy graduate.
But thinking about it, Tottenham are still thin when it comes to qualitative options. And given the injury concerns, Frank could have as many as 15 players out of contention in tonight’s game against Dortmund, showing how thin in options Tottenham really are.
