The former Albion head coach is the pick of some pundits, including Rio Ferdinand, to take over at Old Trafford at the end of the season.
De Zerbi has guided Marseille to third spot in Ligue 1 and is currently preparing for a crucial Champions League game against Liverpool.
He enjoyed two quickfire home wins over Liverpool with the Seagulls having made his Premier League debut with an eventful 3-3 draw at Anfield.
He also had a commendable 2-2 draw at home to Liverpool just three days after Albion’s first European away game, at Marseille.
De Zerbi told his eve-of-match press conference: “My focus is totally on Marseille.
“I have no space in my head to think about other teams.
“Especially because I feel very well in this city, with these players, with this club.”
Ferdinand, whose sons play for the Albion academy, told BBC 5 Live he sees De Zerbi and Antonio Conte as his favoured choices at United.
He added: “You need balls of steel. You need to be able to handle the media.
“We need to go down the people who are passionate and a bit gunslinger type.
“Who just go at it and won’t have it from the media, will be hard maybe to handle for the club owners and the people who operate the football. But that’s what you are paid to do.
“We just need a lunatic and there are only two people I am looking at right now.
“Lunatic isn’t being disrespectful, it is just people who are very different, who don’t care when they are going to ruffle some feathers.”
De Zerbi could potentially do Albion a favour if his Marseille side upset Liverpool’s push for a top-eight finish in the Champions League.
Were they to finish ninth or lower, Arne Slot’s men would go into the FA Cup tie against the Seagulls on February 14 knowing they have a first leg of their Champions League play-off just three or four days later.
Liverpool were ninth going into this week's games.
