Jamie Carragher has said who he thinks Man United should appoint as their next manager.
Manchester United are in a position of uncertainty at the moment, as Michael Carrick is in interim charge until the end of the season.
After the World Cup, a plethora of top managers will be available, including Thomas Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettino, Julian Nagelsmann, and Carlo Ancelotti. However, it could be a tough task for United to decide which option would be the best, should they opt against appointing Carrick.
Carragher says Tuchel would “go to war” for Man United
England boss Tuchel’s contract with the Three Lions is due to expire after the World Cup, and the understanding is that he will be looking to come back into club management, whether England wins the tournament or not.
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has said that Tuchel would be a great choice for United, and that he would “go to war” for the club. Carragher said on Sky Sports: “He's [Tuchel] been in the Premier League before.
“He's obviously a top manager. The thing I like about him is I still think he's got that energy and drive and spikiness about him. He's gone into the England squad, and he's ruffled feathers with some of the biggest players there.
“Now I'm not saying that has to happen in every job he's in, but there's something about him. He just feels like he would go to war for your club, and he'd be fighting against the other clubs, and he'd have something about him."
Carragher is ‘crossing out’ Michael Carrick
Despite his brilliant start to life at Old Trafford, many disagree on whether or not United should consider appointing Carrick as the next permanent United manager, and Carragher is on the side of no.
He said, “I'm crossing out Michael Carrick. I go back to this question - do I believe this guy can win the league? I have to believe he can. I don't believe Man Utd will win the league with Carrick, or Chelsea will with Liam Rosenior. I'm not trying to be disrespectful, but you have to be special. I might be proven wrong."
Carragher isn’t the only pundit with that belief, as both Gary Neville and Roy Keane have been very vocal, saying that the Red Devils shouldn’t even consider Carrick as a permanent manager, regardless of how well he performs during his time in charge before the summer.
