Report: Man Utd dealt blow as sources now expect Everton to make imminent announcement

Everton have already got one over on Manchester United this season.

David Moyes reigned supreme over his former club back in November as a goal from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall secured a 1-0 win for Everton at Old Trafford, a fine result considering Idrissa Gueye had been sent off in just the 13th minute.

Now – according to TEAMtalk – Everton are about to inflict another setback on Manchester United as the Toffees prepare to announce a new contract for James Garner.

Manchester United and Newcastle set to miss out as Everton ready James Garner announcement

TEAMtalk now claim that Everton are in the final stages of agreeing a new deal with the 24-year-old.

Garner was heading for free agency as his current terms expire at the end of the season, but the Toffees are now expected to announce an extension for the centre-midfielder.

The story adds that Newcastle asked Everton about the situation, while the Daily Mail believe Manchester United were hoping to bring their academy graduate back on a free transfer this summer, if not for a bargain price this month.

However, it is said that Garner – who shone against Aston Villa on Sunday – never gave any serious consideration to leaving the Hill Dickinson Stadium, and his decision to stay is expected to become official imminently.

TEAMtalk also mention that the initial delay was due to a disagreement over wages, but there is now a full agreement over a new long-term contract.

AC Milan were also watching Garner as his contract situation stalled, so The Friedkin Group will be delighted to have fended off three significant clubs to keep the Everton No.37 on Merseyside.

Everton still have decisions to make on four other players

Everton look to have sorted the situation involving Garner, but there are others at the Hill Dickinson Stadium who still have uncertain futures.

Vitalii Mykolenko, Michael Keane, Seamus Coleman and Gueye become free agents in July as things stand, all of whom are important players under Moyes.

Mykolenko is out of contract at the end of the season, would you let him leave on a free transfer?

Keane is now 33, while Gueye and Coleman are 36 and 37 respectively, so The Friedkin Group may prefer to let them go in favour of signing younger replacements, in our opinion at least.

However, Moyes might want to keep experienced players around, so there is a lot for the Glaswegian to discuss with his employers.
