Sevilla star Akor Adams celebrates Manchester derby result, Alex Iwobi makes Man Utd transfer joke

Sevilla striker Akor Adams was seen celebrating Manchester United’s win over Man City while travelling with his Nigeria teammates during the Africa Cup of Nations.

Manchester United beat Man City 2-0 on Saturday as Michael Carrick secured three points in his first match back as head coach.

Carrick returned to United as head coach until the end of the season last Tuesday. The former midfield ace had four days to prepare the team for the derby against a Pep Guardiola side hoping to challenge Arsenal for the Premier League title.

The victory was unexpected because United went into the game after failing to win any of their four previous matches across all competitions, although in hindsight, it was well deserved.

Bryan Mbeumo opened the scoring after United caught City on a counter-attack. The lead was doubled 14 minutes before stoppage time when Patrick Dorgu made the most of a cross from Matheus Cunha.

The atmosphere at Old Trafford was electric, but the win was celebrated by United fans worldwide.

Alex Iwobi jokes about Akor Adams pushing for Man Utd transfer

Nigeria won the play-offs for third place against Egypt at AFCON to collect bronze medals on Saturday.

More United News

Although United have no players representing Nigeria, the scoreline in the Manchester derby was of interest to one of their players ahead of their clash with Egypt.

A vlog uploaded by Fulham star Alex Iwobi on YouTube features footage of Nigeria’s squad as part of an AFCON series.

Three minutes into episode 8 of Iwobi’s series, Sevilla striker Akor Adams can be seen celebrating United’s win over Man City on the team bus.

Adams, who has scored five goals for Sevilla this season, makes a gesture to show his happiness at reading the scoreline on his phone, although it suggested United were winning 3-0 after one of the three goals that were overruled by VAR.

Although Iwobi’s vlog has been removed for copyright, the clip of Adams has been clipped and shared on X.

The Fulham midfielder joked with Adams about a potential transfer to United, saying: “This is how you’re going to get a move to Man United.”

This doesn’t quite qualify as transfer news, but it does show that there’s still a massive pull factor when it comes to United. The Red Devils are not competing for the biggest honours but remain the biggest story in world football.

Akor Adams can set Odion Ighalo objective

It seems like Adams is a United fan, judging by his reaction to the derby.

The 25-year-old joined Sevilla last summer following a move from Montpellier in France.

Adams has since made 15 appearances for the La Liga outfit, but his dream could be to follow in Odion Ighalo’s footsteps one day.

After all, Ighalo is the only Nigerian footballer to play for United.
