Everton are facing competition for transfer target Youssef En-Nesyri this transfer window
Everton are up against new competition for one of their transfer targets this window. Juventus are the club in question, having been forced to look further afield after their pursuit of Crystal Palace star Jean-Philippe Mateta has hit a roadblock.
The Serie A giants are shifting their attention elsewhere, with the Eagles standing firm on the figure they want for Mateta. The 28-year-old striker has eight Premier League goals so far this season and has started in every match, so Palace are not currently feeling the urgency to cash in.
The Athletic has reported that Juventus have ‘moved on’ from pursuing Mateta this window, as Palace’s €40 million (£35m) asking price is too steep for them to meet. Other reports from Sky Sports claimed they had been willing to offer a loan with an obligation to buy of around £24m but the Eagles rejected it.
Juventus rival Everton for January striker target
David Ornstein’s update on the latest Transfer DealSheet reports that Mateta was ‘open to the opportunity’ of signing for Juventus and personal terms would not have been an issue. However, the Bianconeri have not submitted a new bid as they consider Palace’s valuation ‘unrealistic’.
Juve are now ‘considering making an offer’ for Fenerbahce forward and Everton target Youssef En-Nesyri. The Morocco international has not missed any games for his club so far this season, apart from his call-up to the Africa Cup of Nations, showing how important he is to the team. Morocco reached the final of the tournament but lost to Senegal.
En-Nesyri has eight goals in all competitions for Fenerbahce so far this season and his current terms run until 2029.
Everton latest on interest in Youssef En-Nesyri
According to Italian journalist Matteo Moretto, the Fenerbahce star has rejected ‘several’ approaches to coax him to the Premier League and a move to Italy now looks increasingly likely.
“There are many clubs interested in En-Nesyri, but the boy has turned down several offers from the Premier League. He wants to play for a club with significant ambitions. In Italy, Napoli are interested, but especially Juventus,” Moretto said on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel.
“The Bianconeri are negotiating for [Jean-Philippe] Mateta, but there's a gap between the parties. Napoli have pursued En-Nesyri, it's true, but right now they're at a disadvantage compared to Juventus, who have the advantage over the Moroccan."
