Hull City boss Sergej Jakirovic has confirmed that his Championship side are confident in completing a deal to sign Manchester United midfielder Toby Collyer on loan.

Collyer played 12 games for West Brom in the first half of the season before he returned to United due to a calf injury. After recovering, the 22-year-old has been linked with another temporary exit before the window closes.

The Tigers are understood to have expressed an interest in the midfielder in the summer and Jakirovic recently admitted he would still like to sign him. Now, a move to the KCM Stadium is progressing and could be completed this week.

Speaking after his side's 3-0 win over Preston North End on Tuesday night, Jakirovic confirmed he is hoping to sign the United midfielder before Saturday's home game against Swansea City.

"I think we will complete the deal for Toby this week," Jakirovic told Hull Live following the impressive win in Lancashire.

Collyer's future at Old Trafford has been up in the air this month. United's midfield issues left the door open for a potential return to the first team under Michael Carrick.

Previously, the 22-year-old made 13 appearances for the United first-team and was a regular off the bench under Ruben Amorim at the start of 2025. "He has very good legs, he's improving with the ball," Amorim said of the midfielder.

"He knows what he needs to do to play for this club and feels the club in the right way. He's really humble and when you work hard, you get the opportunity."

Hull are enjoying one of their better seasons in the Championship since their relegation from the Premier League in 2017. The Tigers are currently fourth in the table after 27 games, three points off the automatic places.

Tuesday night's 3-0 win over Preston, who are also in the play-offs, was their 14th league win this term. Collyer's imminent arrival should see him get minutes from the off with Darko Gyabi facing a lengthy spell out.

Fellow midfielder Kasey Palmer is on the verge of joining Luton Town on loan. At Preston on Tuesday, Regan Slater and Matt Crooks started in midfield, with John Lundstram coming off the bench later on.
