West Ham could lose a very important player this month, and a Real Madrid star wants to see it happen.
West Ham could be set to lose one of their most creative players this month in what will be a big blow to their survival hopes. The Hammers are in a difficult spot as they stare down the second half - or just under - of the season.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s men are five points from safety, closing the gap from seven points with a big win over Tottenham last weekend, but Nottingham Forest, the team they are chasing, are looking more solid by the week under Sean Dyche.
West Ham need to find a very consistent run of form to haul themselves out of the relegation zone between now and the end of the season. Transfers will help, and the Iron are are doing all they can, snapping up Pablo Felipe and Tony Castellanos, and more signings are on their way.
The Iron board will know they failed to do an adequate job when building this squad in the summer, and if they don’t want the hassle and financial blow of dropping into the Championship. Santo needs more and better tools to work with.
But while more incomings are on the cards, there also looks to be a key exit, with Lucas Paquetá looking like departing. The creative Brazilian is pushing for a move back to Flamengo in his home country, and he seems to have the support of one of the best players in the world in Vinicius Jr.
“I ask my agents every day about Paquetá and his move to Foamengo, who are also his agents,” said the Real Madrid winger. “His happiness is mine, and Flamengo’s happiness is ours. God willing, in the next few days he could close this deal”.
West Ham have been demanding that Flamengo meet their £50million asking price, and while there has been a recent bump in the wealth of Brazilian clubs, Flamengo don’t look willing to spend much more than £35million. With Paquetá pushing for an exit, there have been some reports that the Hammers will lower their asking price, but they won’t be chopping off £15million any time soon, meaning this could drag out until the end of the window.
