Hull City manager Sergej Jakirovic is confident that his Championship side will secure a move for Manchester United midfielder Toby Collyer on a loan deal this week.

Collyer featured in 12 matches for West Bromwich Albion during the first half of the campaign before returning to United due to a calf problem. Following his recovery, the 22-year-old has been touted for another loan spell before the transfer window shuts.

The Tigers are believed to have shown interest in the midfielder during the summer, with Jakirovic previously acknowledging his desire to bring Collyer in. Now, a switch to the KCM Stadium is gaining momentum and could be finalised this week.

After watching his team thrash Preston North End 3-0 on Tuesday evening, Jakirovic expressed hope of landing the United star before Saturday's home clash with Swansea City.

"I think we will complete the deal for Toby this week," Jakirovic told Hull Live.

Collyer's Old Trafford future has remained uncertain this month. United's midfield concerns had opened the possibility of a return to the first team under Michael Carrick.

The 22-year-old has previously made 13 first-team appearances for United and was regularly used as a substitute under Ruben Amorim at the beginning of 2025. "He has very good legs, he's improving with the ball," Amorim said of the midfielder.

"He knows what he needs to do to play for this club and feels the club in the right way. He's really humble and when you work hard, you get the opportunity."

Hull are experiencing one of their finest Championship campaigns since dropping out of the Premier League in 2017. The Tigers sit fourth in the standings after 27 matches, just three points adrift of the automatic promotion spots.

Tuesday evening's commanding 3-0 victory over Preston, who are also battling for the play-offs, marked their 14th league triumph this season. Collyer's impending switch should guarantee him immediate playing time with Darko Gyabi set for an extended period on the sidelines.

Meanwhile, fellow midfielder Kasey Palmer is poised to complete a loan move to Luton Town. During Tuesday's clash at Preston, Regan Slater and Matt Crooks were named in the starting midfield, whilst John Lundstram was introduced from the substitutes' bench.
