Instead, Beckham took to the social media platform to wish former Manchester United teammates Phil Neville and Nicky Butt a happy birthday.
Beckham shared a snap of himself and Butt from their playing days with the Red Devils and another of the defender celebrating a goal.
He then dedicated two more Instagram stories to Neville and his twin sister, Tracey, who played netball for England.
Beckham, Butt and Neville were all members of the fabled Class of 92, which included fellow Red Devils heroes Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville.

As for Beckham and Neville, they were teammates for 281 games.
Beckham's wife, Victoria, also made a comeback to social media in the form of an Instagram story.
Similarly to her husband, the 51-year-old wished Emma Bunton, also known as 'Baby Spice', a happy birthday.
"Happy birthday @emmaleebunton, I love you so much!!" Beckham wrote.
David and Victoria's Instagram posts come two days after eldest child Brooklyn accused them of trying to control his life in order to protect 'Brand Beckham'.

In a string of stunning Instagram stories, Brooklyn also claimed his mother had hijacked his wedding day by 'very inappropriately' performing a dance on him.
Brooklyn also claimed his wife, American actress and heiress Nicola Peltz, has been 'constantly disrespected' by his family.
He also took aim at his parents' 'performative social media posts' and felt they value 'public promotion and endorsement above all else'.
The eldest Beckham child also stated he 'does not want to reconcile' with his family.
David and Victoria are yet to formally respond to Brooklyn's staggering accusations, although the Red Devils great touched on the dangers of social media during an appearance on CNBC's Squawk Box.
“I have always spoken about social media and the power of social media . . . For the good and for the bad,” Beckham said.

“But what I have found personally, especially with my kids as well, use it for the right reasons.
“I’ve been able to use my platform for my following, for UNICEF.
“And it has been the biggest tool to make people aware of what’s going on around the world for children.
“And I have tried to do the same with my children, to educate them.
