Manchester United youngster Shea Lacey took part in first-team training on Wednesday. Lacey was not involved with the Under-21s on Tuesday night because he was set to feature in senior training again.
The 18-year-old made two bright cameos against Burnley in the Premier League and against Brighton in the FA Cup. He was shown a second yellow card against Brighton, but was applauded off the pitch by fans.
Lacey did not play for the U21s against Sporting Lisbon in the Premier League International Cup due to his progress with the first-team. United have considered Lacey as a prospect with first-team potential since his early days in the academy, and he is now striving to contribute more at that level.
Ruben Amorim handed Lacey his debut against Aston Villa last month. Darren Fletcher provided Lacey with his next appearance at Turf Moor, and he struck the crossbar in the final five minutes of the game.
Lacey looked crestfallen when he was sent off against Brighton in the FA Cup. He was suspended for the Manchester derby, but will be available to make the squad when United play Arsenal this weekend.
The Liverpool-born lad dropped down to play for the U21s against Fulham last Friday and scored twice in a 2-2 draw. He has contributed five goals and two assists in 10 academy appearances this term.
Fletcher praised Lacey when he spoke after the Burnley draw. "I said to him, stay wide and go and do what you do, and he did that. I know he's gonna make an impact," said Fletcher.
"I know he's creative. He's got goals in him. He's exciting, he's direct, he's fearless, and he hit the crossbar, and he had another shot, so he had a really bright game. I'm pleased for him because there have been a lot of injuries in recent years, and he's not really got going with his momentum, but we know the talent that he's got, and he'll be a big part of Manchester United's future. I've no doubts about that."
United have exercised patience with Lacey, who has struggled with muscle injuries, but that foresight is paying off, with the youngster now delivering consistently strong performances.
