Manchester United have released a travel warning ahead of their clash with Arsenal this weekend. No direct trains will be available to make the trip from the north west to the Emirates on Sunday.

Engineering works are taking place on the route, meaning that rail replacement buses will be in place. The quickest journey available via rail will take almost three-and-a-half hours, with a number of alternative options taking more than four or five hours.

Manchester United matchday account said on X: "Supporters travelling to Emirates Stadium on Sunday 25 January, please be aware there are no direct trains from Manchester to London on Sunday due to planned engineering works in the Milton Keynes area.

"Rail replacement buses are in operation between Rugby and Milton Keynes Central. Make sure to check your travel and use alternative routes where possible"

The clash will mark Michael Carrick's first away trip in charge of United since being appointed head coach last week. The former midfielder's tenure could not have been presented a more difficult opening set of fixtures than Manchester City and league leaders Arsenal.

But United got off to an exhilarating start under Carrick with a derby win at Old Trafford at the weekend. Bryan Mbeumo and Patrick Dorgu got on the scoresheet as the home side earned a deserved win.

Arsenal will likely present a tougher task at the Emirates. The Gunners are unbeaten at the north London home and have won nine of 11 Premier League matches as hosts.

It appears Carrick could once again be without Joshua Zirkzee and Matthijs de Ligt due to injury. Both were missing from training on Wednesday morning, with Zirkzee forced out of the Manchester derby at the weekend as a result of a knock.

De Ligt has been unavailable for selection due to a back injury.

Despite the enthusiasm for victory over City last weekend, it didn't take Carrick long to turn his thoughts to Arsenal. The 44-year-old wants to see a similar intensity for the rest of the season.

“That’s the challenge ultimately and I think it needs to be a version of normal," he said in his press conference.

"Listen, we’re not going to have games with the emotion and feeling and everything that today brought. I think we all understand that. But there’s definitely levels of standards and expectations that we need to live up to from ourselves as much as anyone on the outside. I’m totally aware of that.

"Consistency is the key to any success and if you can find that, then you’re on to a winner, so that’s our challenge. You’ve got to find a way of doing that.

"Big one next week [against Arsenal], obviously another tough one. But on the back of today, we’ve got a good foundation to build on."
