Manchester United and Arsenal enjoyed a fantastic rivalry in the late 90s and early 2000s, with Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger’s sides facing off.
By the early 2010s, it was no longer so even, Fergie routinely got the better of Wenger, and trips to Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium were far more friendly than playing at Highbury.
In recent years, however, Manchester United do not have such a great record away at Arsenal.
United do have two away victories over the Gunners in the FA Cup, winning on penalties in January 2025, and a 3-1 win in 2019.
But in the Premier League it has been a very different story.

United have won just two of these 12 matches, with drawing one, and losing nine. The Emirates has not been a happy ground for United in recent seasons.
In seven different games United have failed to score at the stadium, including in the team’s last league visit, a 2-0 defeat under Ruben Amorim.
Michael Carrick has one thing in his favour – he has already beaten Mikel Arteta as manager, during his interim spell at Old Trafford.
Arsenal won 1-0 away at United in the season opener in a very competitive game. United felt like they should have won it, and will also take heart from the FA Cup win at Arsenal last season.
With Carrick’s United on a high after the Manchester Derby demolition, there will be respect but no fear heading into this weekend.

United’s last Premier League win at Arsenal
Jose Mourinho was the last Manchester United boss to beat Arsenal at The Emirates in the Premier League when Arsene Wenger was still in charge of the Gunners.
This 3-1 victory in 2017 saw Antonio Valencia and Jesse Lingard give United the lead with two early goals.
Alexandre Lacazette pulled one back for Arsenal, before United added a third to win 3-1, despite Paul Pogba being sent off.
United’s line-up was: De Gea, Lindelof, Rojo, Smalling, Valencia, Young, Matic, Pogba, Martial, Lukaku.
Only De Gea, Lindelof and Martial remain at the club, along with Marcus Rashford who was a second-half substitute.
The match is better remembered for David de Gea‘s incredible array of goalkeeping as much as United’s attack, with Jesse Lingard dancing at The Emirates for the first time.
