Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Real Sociedad star Mikel Oyarzabal. The Spaniard has a release clause worth €75 million in his contract, which expires in 2028.
The Red Devils are looking for an experienced striker after spending big on young forwards in recent seasons. They signed Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta in 2023 for a reported fee of €72 million, and he's currently on loan at Napoli. They then signed Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig last summer for €85 million, including add-ons.
As per Football Transfers, Manchester United sent scouts to watch Real Sociedad striker Mikel Oyarzabal. The 28-year-old came through the Spanish side's academy and has registered 121 goals and 64 assists in 416 senior games for them. He is primarily a centre-forward but can also play as a second striker.
Oyarzabal's contract with Real Sociedad reportedly has a release clause worth €75 million. This could prove to be a stumbling block in the Premier League giants' pursuit of him. The Spaniard has scored six goals and provided three assists in 19 games across competitions this season. Oyarzabal has also scored 22 goals and contributed 11 assists in 51 games for Spain.
Former PL head coach claims Benjamin Sesko isn't good enough for Manchester United
Former Tottenham Hotspur head coach Tim Sherwood believes Benjamin Sesko isn't good enough to play for United. He acknowledged his recent goals and the adaptation period in the Premier League, but added that he will stand by his criticism.
Sesko scored a brace in the Red Devils' 2-2 draw at Burnley in the Premier League on January 7. After the game, Sherwood said:
"I think the positive is Sesko scoring. Scoring two goals… hopefully he gets some confidence from that .It’s taken six months to turn up at Manchester United and I’m pleased for the lad. He’s had a tough run of it and I said he should have come off the pitch at half-time, never to wear a Manchester United shirt again."
"Listen, I stand by what I say: he’s not good enough to play for Manchester United. No, he’s turned up for one game against Burnley who are going to get relegated. Look, fair play to him, hopefully he gets some confidence and we start seeing something different from him. I’ll put him in my fantasy football team now!" he added.
Sesko has scored just five goals and provided one assist in 19 games across competitions for the Premier League giants.
