Report: Man Utd ready for bidding war to sign £52m star who 'plays like Rodri'

Manchester United are eyeing a move to sign Borussia Dortmund star Felix Nmecha this summer, according to TEAMtalk.

The Red Devils used the most recent summer transfer window to strengthen their attack with the arrivals of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko, and have now turned their attention to bolstering their midfield amid concerns over the futures of Casemiro, Manuel Ugarte, Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes.

The club have been linked with a number of potential midfield options, including the likes of Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest, but there is a Bundesliga star who has also caught their attention, and they're ready to enter a bidding war to secure his services.

Nmecha, who has been compared to Man City star Rodri by Como scout Ben Mattinson, moved to Borussia Dortmund in 2023 and has become a key member of their side, having joined from Wolfsburg after previously spending time in the Man City academy.

But the Germany international, who also represented England at youth level, is said to be attracting interest from a number of clubs in the Premier League, and Man Utd are one of the teams closely monitoring his situation heading into the summer transfer window.

Known for his box-to-box abilities and technical qualities, United view him as someone who would easily adapt to Premier League football and would add great quality to their squad for the new season. However, Dortmund are not looking to lose one of their top players and have slapped a €60m (£52m) asking price on his head to try and fend off interested parties.

His current contract is set to expire in 2028 and has no release clause, which gives the Bundesliga outfit plenty of leverage in negotiations, and they are even considering offering him a new contract before the summer. But with Tottenham also paying close attention to his situation, it's understood that a bidding war could materialise.

Midfield Additions Key for Man Utd

While there are doubts about the future of all of United's first-team midfield options, some of those concerns come from the fact that United haven't made a decision on their future.

Casemiro's contract expires at the end of the season, while Ugarte seems likely to leave having failed to impress since joining from Paris Saint-Germain. A defensive-minded midfielder who can also help in the attacking third would be ideal, and Nmecha fits that description.

On his own, the 25-year-old wouldn't be enough. But alongside a more marquee signing too, midfield upgrades could really help to take this Man Utd team up a level next season, and with the right manager in place too, there is no limit to what they could achieve.
